Who uses Yellow Pages
People searching for local businesses by category and location, and local businesses that want their directory listing to be accurate and complete.
Claim your profile
- Go to the site's claim-your-listing page.
- Pick your business location by entering the business name and address.
- If the business does not appear in the search, the page offers a link and a phone line for help adding it.
- The page describes an enhanced business profile with options such as social links, special offers, a photo gallery, hours, service details and certifications.
Replying to reviews
The pages reviewed do not describe a process for business owners to reply to reviews, so none is documented here.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Yellow Pages reviews are user-provided content covered by the site's terms of use, and the company reserves the right, but does not take on an obligation, to refuse or remove content that breaks its publication standards.
- The standards bar unlawful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, obscene or otherwise offensive material, and content meant to annoy or provoke other users.
- Reviews that are inflammatory, appear deliberately deceptive, or are not based on the author's real personal experience can be rejected.
- Reviews may not allege unlawful conduct, such as criminal behavior, malpractice, deliberate overcharging or health code violations; the terms suggest reporting suspected crimes to the local police or other authorities.
- Spam, chain letters, political campaigning and promotional or commercial content are not allowed.
- Reviews may not include other users' personal information, such as email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses.
- Reviews from a business's owners, employees (past or present), family members, agents, affiliates or competitors are prohibited unless the relationship is clearly disclosed.
- Impersonating another person or business, or misstating your affiliation with the business being reviewed, is not allowed.
- The terms also prohibit actions that undermine the ratings and review process.
- Apart from removals under the content terms, or for a business that opts out of having such added material on its listing, the company says it will not edit or remove user-provided content such as reviews, photos or ratings.
Reporting a review
Yellow Pages's own process, step by step.
- The terms say objectionable content can be reported through the reporting options on the site, such as a flag or feedback form, or by contacting customer service; the company handles such requests at its discretion.
Tips
- Claim your listing and keep the name, address, phone number and hours consistent with your other online listings.
- Read the site's terms before asking customers for reviews, and do not post reviews about your own business or a competitor without clear disclosure of the relationship.
- Do not ask staff, relatives or associates to review the business unless they clearly disclose the relationship.
