Who uses WebMD Care (Physician Directory)
Physicians and other healthcare providers are listed, and patients use the directory to find and rate them. Paid Featured Profiles add prominent placement, online booking and other features, and a higher tier adds Reputation Management.
Claim your profile
- Complete the free Basic Profile form with your email, practice name, provider first and last name and a direct phone number.
- Submitting the form means you accept WebMD's terms of use and privacy policy.
- Once claimed and verified, update details such as specialties, education, accepted insurance, conditions treated and procedures performed.
- WebMD lists a phone number on the claim page for providers who have questions.
Replying to reviews
WebMD's provider information page ties responding to patient reviews to its paid Reputation Management product, alongside alerts for new reviews and pinning reviews to the top of the profile. Its lists of Basic and Featured Profile features do not include review responses.
- The WebMD page that describes the plans does not explain the reply rules, so check them with WebMD before relying on this feature.
- WebMD's Terms and Conditions say reviews on the directory are also subject to WebMD's Reviews Guidelines.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Reviews on the Physician Directory are user content and must follow WebMD's Reviews Guidelines in addition to the general terms of use.
- The terms prohibit unlawful, defamatory, harassing or abusive material, advertising, spam, impersonation and content that infringes others' rights.
- WebMD says it may remove user content at any time, including content it believes violates its terms or policies.
- WebMD says it applies internal policies to check the quality and accuracy of reviews.
- Providers cannot edit or delete reviews. Only WebMD customer service can remove one, after an internal check.
Reporting a review
WebMD Care (Physician Directory)'s own process, step by step.
- Open WebMD's Customer Care article on directory listing and review concerns and click Contact Us, which leads to the Submit a Request page.
- On the request form, choose the "Directory Profile & Reviews for WebMD/Vitals" option.
- Fill out all applicable fields and include the doctor's NPI, first and last name and the URL of the listing on doctor.webmd.com.
- For a review concern, provide the review and its date.
- WebMD needs this information from each doctor separately.
- WebMD states that it removes only reviews that go against its review guidelines.
Tips
- Claim the profile and keep specialties, insurance and location details current.
- Keep any public response professional, and keep patient information out of it.
- Do not pay for or fake reviews, and do not pressure patients to remove reviews.
- Ask satisfied patients for honest feedback through your normal practice channels.
- Report a review only when it clearly violates the published guidelines, and include the specifics.
