Who uses Vitals
Physicians, dentists and other clinicians are listed, and patients use the site to research and compare providers and leave reviews. Vitals is part of the same health network as WebMD's physician directory.
Claim your profile
- Find the provider's profile page on Vitals.
- Click the "claim this profile" link on the profile page.
- Once the profile is claimed, update details such as photos and other profile data.
- Vitals says an actively licensed physician who is shown as inactive should claim the profile to update the listing; to count as active, a provider needs an active license and a confirmed practice address that is accessible to consumers.
Replying to reviews
The Vitals help pages we checked do not describe a way for providers to reply publicly to reviews.
- Vitals says it does not edit the comments or rating selections in reviews.
- Vitals reserves the right to take down comments it considers offensive, malicious, inappropriate, sexually explicit or not made in good faith.
- Vitals says it now displays only moderated patient reviews submitted on vitals.com, and a patient can rate the same doctor only once a month.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Reviews must come from the reviewer's own first-hand experience rather than hearsay.
- Personal identifying information and confidential information the reviewer is not permitted to share must not be included.
- Reviewers should not post their own medical details, such as symptoms, diagnoses or prescriptions.
- Content should stick to opinion or accurate facts. Unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive or spam content is not allowed.
- Advertising, solicitations and content that violates others' rights are also barred.
- Vitals reserves the right to remove reviews that do not meet its guidelines or terms of use.
Reporting a review
Vitals's own process, step by step.
- The doctor opens WebMD's customer care article on directory listings and review concerns and clicks Contact Us, which leads to the Submit a Request page.
- On the request form, choose the "Directory Profile & Reviews for WebMD/Vitals" option.
- Include the doctor's NPI, first and last name and the URL of the profile listing.
- For a review concern, include the review and its date. The support article says reviews are removed only when they go against the review guidelines it links to.
- Submit the information separately for each doctor.
Tips
- Claim the profile and keep photos, practice address and contact details accurate.
- Ask satisfied patients for honest feedback through your normal practice channels.
- Vitals' terms of use forbid writing fake reviews, trading reviews and paying or being paid for reviews.
- If a review clearly breaks the guidelines, report it with the specifics through the WebMD/Vitals request form.
- Treat patterns in feedback as input for improving the practice.
