Who uses Thumbtack
Independent pros and small businesses that offer their services on Thumbtack, and the customers who contact, hire and review them.
Claim your profile
- Thumbtack does not describe a separate claim step: a pro creates their own profile with the "Sign up as a pro" option. Thumbtack's pro page says joining has no charge and no subscription, annual or membership fees.
Replying to reviews
In the Thumbtack Pro app, tap Profile, then under Reviews tap the review you want to answer, type your reply and tap Save. The help center also lists a desktop version of these steps. The reply appears alongside the review on your profile.
- A reply cannot be edited once it is submitted, so draft it before posting.
- Thumbtack encourages personalized replies rather than identical ones.
- For a negative review, Thumbtack suggests staying factual, polite and patient, thanking the customer for the feedback, apologizing that they were not pleased, and offering to find a compromise or fix the situation.
- When a customer updates a verified review, the pro gets a chance to respond once to the updated version.
- Businesses using Thumbtack's partner integrations can post replies through its Reviews API by sending the review ID and reply text.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Thumbtack removes content that breaks its policies, and the Content and Review Policy applies to everything posted, including reviews.
- Reviews must be based on an actual or attempted interaction between the customer and the pro. For example, a customer who contacted a pro and heard nothing back, or who received a quote, can review that interaction.
- Reviews unrelated to the interaction, such as political or social commentary, or racially motivated or discriminatory content, are prohibited.
- Reviews must be posted within six months of the last interaction, or within one year of the last day the pro worked on the project.
- Reviews given in exchange for an incentive, such as a discount, sweepstakes entry, rebate or cash, are prohibited.
- Content that is fraudulent, misleading or deceptive is prohibited, including digitally altered or AI-generated media used to fake work quality.
- Thumbtack does not edit reviews. Customers who hired a pro on Thumbtack can update a verified review once.
- Reviews represent customers' opinions, not Thumbtack's.
- If a dispute arises between a customer and a pro, relevant reviews may be removed or hidden at Thumbtack's discretion until it is resolved.
Reporting a review
Thumbtack's own process, step by step.
- Thumbtack asks users to notify it if they believe content on the site violates its policies, and says content may disagree with you without breaking a policy.
- To dispute a review, contact Thumbtack within 30 days of the review being posted.
Tips
- Reply to reviews, including negative ones, politely and with the facts.
- Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return for one: Thumbtack's terms and review policy prohibit both.
- Keep your profile photos and details current.
