Who uses Software Advice
Vendors of packaged, off-the-shelf software for businesses or consumers with a public call to action such as a trial, demo, or request for information. Reviewers are software users, and the vendor, its employees and anyone with a financial interest in the product are not allowed to review it.
Claim your profile
- Describe the product on the vendor information page so the site can judge fit; a free listing can be requested for products that fit the site.
- The site may build the listing from public information or work with the vendor, and its content team has final say over the copy.
- Pricing information is required for the listing, but the site never shows the prices themselves, only a range of one to five dollar signs.
- Vetting, writing, and publishing can take over six weeks, according to the site.
- To change an existing profile, email update requests to listings@g2digitalmarkets.com; changes must fit the site's profile guidelines.
Replying to reviews
Vendors are encouraged to respond to reviews regardless of the rating given, and responses must be made through the site's tools, such as the reply feature in the Vendor Portal.
- Responses must be respectful and constructive, with no abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content.
- Vendors should not contact a reviewer, directly or indirectly, to get a review removed or edited.
- Pressuring reviewers or threatening legal action over legitimate feedback is prohibited.
- A negative review is not removed because the vendor later resolved the issue, and a review is not removed only because it mentions features that are no longer supported.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- A review has to come from someone who actually uses the product and describe their own first-hand experience, and the reviewer's identity must be verifiable.
- Vendors, their employees, and people with a financial interest in a product may not review it.
- Incentives must be disclosed and offered equally regardless of the rating given.
- Vendors should not selectively request reviews only from customers expected to be positive.
- Submitting reports under false pretenses or to manipulate ratings is prohibited and may lead to penalties.
Reporting a review
Software Advice's own process, step by step.
- Report a review that appears fraudulent or inappropriate by emailing reviews@g2digitalmarkets.com with a link to the product page, details about the review and any supporting information; the reviews FAQ also says vendors can flag a review for investigation through the vendor portal.
- Do not contact the reviewer to try to change the review; the reviews FAQ asks reviewers to report vendors who reach out to them for that purpose.
Tips
- Reply to reviews, positive or negative, in a respectful and constructive tone.
- Keep the product details and pricing information you give the site accurate.
- Ask customers broadly for reviews and disclose any incentive.
- Never ask a reviewer to delete or soften a review.
