Who uses Shopify App Store
Software companies and developers that build apps for Shopify merchants. Reviews are written by merchants: only a merchant with the app installed, or one that uninstalled it within the last 45 days, can leave a review, and the review shows the store's name.
Claim your profile
- There is no claim process: a listing exists only for an app that its developer submits through a Shopify Partner account.
- Before submitting, the developer runs Shopify's automated checks, configures the app (app URLs, compliance webhooks, a 1200 x 1200 app icon, contact details) and creates at least one App Store listing in a primary language.
- The Shopify App Store Review team then reviews the submission and can reject an app that does not meet its requirements.
- Partners who repeatedly fail to fix flagged issues can be paused from resubmitting for a period.
Replying to reviews
In the Partner Dashboard, go to Apps, select the app, and in Latest merchant feedback click View and reply to reviews. Find the review, click Reply, enter the text and click Submit reply. The account owner or a staff account with the Manage public listings permission can reply.
- Only the developer's latest reply is shown on the app listing page.
- Replies can be edited at any time after publication, and the merchant can also edit the review, including the star rating.
- Shopify notifies the reviewer about a reply and emails the developer when a merchant edits a review.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Only merchants who have the app installed can leave a review, and they can also review within 45 days of uninstalling it.
- Shopify asks developers not to request reviews during onboarding or installation, so merchants have time to form an informed opinion.
- Fake and incentivized reviews are prohibited. Developers may not offer a discount or other benefit for a review, withhold features in exchange for reviews, or ask for positive reviews; requests must use neutral language.
- Admin UI blocks, admin actions, admin links and checkout extensions cannot be used to request reviews.
- Reviews must meet Shopify's trust and quality standards before they are published; unpublished reviews do not appear and do not count toward the review total or rating.
- Violations can lead to removed reviews, demotion or delisting of the app, or termination of the Partner account.
Reporting a review
Shopify App Store's own process, step by step.
- Developers can report reviews through Shopify's partner violation reporting tool.
- Reportable grounds are inappropriate content (such as swearing, slurs or threats), personal information (such as phone numbers or email addresses), a conflict of interest (paid reviews, or reviews by a developer or its employees of its own or a competing app) and duplicate reviews.
- Shopify investigates and may edit or remove a review, but does not discuss the outcome. A developer who believes a removal was incorrect can appeal.
Tips
- Ask for a review only after the merchant has used the app long enough to judge it, and in neutral words.
- Reply to reviews, especially critical ones, since the reply is shown on the listing and the merchant may update the review.
- Never tie a discount, feature or other benefit to a review.
- Report a review only when it fits one of Shopify's listed grounds.

About the numbers
- AI citations: the share of answers from AI assistants that cite a page on apps.shopify.com, out of 23,227 answers in the last 90 days, to questions about the businesses in our directory ("what do customers say about ...") and to category questions ("best dentist in ..."). Search-result and help pages on a review site are not counted. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
- Cited by AI, by industry: for each industry (a directory category, or the national brands filed under an industry such as e-commerce), the share of AI answers about businesses in that industry that cite a page on apps.shopify.com; n is the number of answers in that industry (last 90 days; only industries with at least 20 answers). As of October 30, 2026. ↩
- Site reach: the estimated monthly organic search visits to apps.shopify.com (DataForSEO Labs). These are third-party estimates for the whole domain, not figures from Shopify App Store. As of October 2026. ↩
