Review rules

In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.

  • Client reviews rate Communication Ability, Responsiveness, Quality of Service and Value for Money from 1 to 5, plus whether the reviewer would recommend the lawyer.
  • Reviews come through a survey of about five minutes, and reviewers are asked to wait until the matter is finished.
  • Reviewers give a name and email for administrative purposes, but reviews are displayed anonymously.
  • Martindale-Hubbell may remove reviews with inappropriate content under its policies.

Reporting a review

Martindale-Hubbell's own process, step by step.

  1. To ask Martindale to consider removing a review, click the 'Report Abuse' button next to it on your profile.
  2. Use the same button if you believe a client review was not submitted by a client.
  3. To hide all client reviews (or all peer reviews), send a written request to ratings@martindale.com or call Customer Support at 800-526-4902. All scores and feedback are then replaced with a notice that the lawyer chose not to display them.

About the numbers

  1. AI citations: the share of answers from AI assistants that cite a page on martindale.com, out of 23,227 answers in the last 90 days, to questions about the businesses in our directory ("what do customers say about ...") and to category questions ("best dentist in ..."). Search-result and help pages on a review site are not counted. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  2. Cited by AI, by industry: for each industry (a directory category, or the national brands filed under an industry such as e-commerce), the share of AI answers about businesses in that industry that cite a page on martindale.com; n is the number of answers in that industry (last 90 days; only industries with at least 20 answers). As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  3. Has a profile, by industry: the share of the businesses we checked in each industry that have a Martindale-Hubbell profile; n is the number of businesses checked in that industry. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
