Who uses Justia Lawyers

Individual attorneys, law firms (which can claim several attorney profiles at once) and non-profit legal aid organizations, plus people looking for a lawyer. Client reviews come from clients of the lawyer, including pro bono clients.

Claim your profile

  1. Search for your name in the directory. On your profile page, click the red '[Name], click here to claim your profile for free!' link below your name; if you have no profile, use the 'Get Listed' link at the top right of the page to register.
  2. Pick a verification method: Claim by Email (a code and link go to the email on file), Claim by Phone (an automated call where you enter a five-digit code), or Claim by Photo (upload, email or fax proof of identity and your law license).
  3. Use the attorney's personal law firm email address. Justia says access may be revoked if a profile is claimed with another address, such as a generic office email.
  4. Claim by Photo is always offered for unclaimed profiles; Justia may need a few business days to review the proof.
  5. To claim several attorneys at once, send Justia the claim authorization letter and claiming worksheet by email or fax; Justia allows up to 7 business days and gives each profile its own login.
  6. Once claimed, log in, choose View Account, open the profile, and use 'Improve Your Profile' or 'Edit This Section' to add details. There is no fee to be listed.

Replying to reviews

When a client submits a review, Justia emails the lawyer a notification that includes a link to respond. The review is published whether or not the lawyer responds, unless the lawyer flags it for moderation. Justia's policy says that if the reviewer was a client but the lawyer finds the review inaccurate or misleading, the lawyer's route is to respond through that link.

  • A review is published no more than 24 hours after the reviewer confirms the verification email and the review passes moderation.
  • The lawyer receives the reviewer's full name and email address, along with the display name the reviewer chose.
  • A lawyer cannot remove a review on their own.
  • Lawyers can opt out of client reviews at any time by contacting Justia, and can keep peer reviews while opting out of client reviews.
  • Justia says client reviews have no effect on a lawyer's rating in the directory.

Review rules

In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.

  • Every review must be based on an attorney-client relationship, and Justia may ask for proof such as an engagement letter, retainer agreement or court appointment.
  • Reviews based only on a free consultation are not allowed, and friends of the lawyer should not review unless they received legal services.
  • Reviewers give their name and email and must confirm a verification email. Reviews are not anonymous to the lawyer, but the public name can be shortened to initials.
  • Each client may review a lawyer once; edits and updates go through Justia support.
  • A headline of 10 to 100 characters and a review of 250 to 5,000 characters are required, and the reviewer must say whether they recommend the lawyer.
  • Not allowed: privileged or court-sealed content, threats, hate speech, harassment, lewd content, swearing, advertising or spam, personal identifying information, and content protected by someone else's intellectual property.
  • Justia reserves the right to remove content that breaks its policies or terms, or for any other reason.

Reporting a review

Justia Lawyers's own process, step by step.

  1. A lawyer may flag a review that does not concern legal services they actually provided, or that is offensive. A flagged review is not published at that time.
  2. The reviewer then has seven days to provide verification contesting the lawyer's position; if none arrives, the review is permanently unpublished.
  3. If the reviewer provides verification, the lawyer is asked for more information within seven days. If it shows the review should not be published, it is unpublished; if the lawyer provides nothing, the review is published.
  4. Contesting is meant for reviews from people who were not clients; for a client's review the lawyer disagrees with, Justia points to a public response instead.
  5. Questions about reviews go to Justia through its support contact page.

Tips

  • Claim your profile with your own firm email address so you receive review notifications.
  • Reply to reviews in a calm, factual way and never reveal confidential client information.
  • Flag a review only when the writer was not your client or the content breaks the rules.
  • Keep practice areas, contact details and your biography current.

About the numbers

  1. AI citations: the share of answers from AI assistants that cite a page on justia.com, out of 23,227 answers in the last 90 days, to questions about the businesses in our directory ("what do customers say about ...") and to category questions ("best dentist in ..."). Search-result and help pages on a review site are not counted. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  2. Cited by AI, by industry: for each industry (a directory category, or the national brands filed under an industry such as e-commerce), the share of AI answers about businesses in that industry that cite a page on justia.com; n is the number of answers in that industry (last 90 days; only industries with at least 20 answers). As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  3. Has a profile, by industry: the share of the businesses we checked in each industry that have a Justia Lawyers profile; n is the number of businesses checked in that industry. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  4. States: the share of the businesses we checked in each state that have a Justia Lawyers profile. States with too few businesses for a stable number are marked "small sample" and are not ranked; when every state is a small sample, none is shown. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  5. Site reach: the estimated monthly organic search visits to justia.com (DataForSEO Labs) and its Domain Rating (Ahrefs, 0 to 100). These are third-party estimates for the whole domain, not figures from Justia Lawyers. As of October 2026. ↩
