Who uses Houzz
Home professionals such as contractors, builders, and designers, plus homeowners who hire and review them.
Claim your profile
- Houzz's help center explains how to create a business profile through Houzz Pro; the articles we checked do not describe a separate claim form for existing listings.
- Go to houzz.com/pro and sign up with your business email address and a password, or choose Continue with Google.
- Answer a few questions about your business, such as the type of business and average annual revenue, then fill in your profile information.
- Select a plan on the pricing page, choose how many team members will use Houzz Pro, and complete the checkout page to start a free trial.
- Afterward, click your company icon in the top right corner, then View Profile to review your profile or Account Settings to edit it.
Replying to reviews
Once a review is approved it appears in the Review tab of the pro's profile, where the pro can respond with their own comments or choose a featured review for the profile.
- Houzz notes that pros can respond to reviews with a thank-you message and a Like.
- For negative reviews Houzz suggests responding promptly, acknowledging the client's experience, tailoring the reply to their concerns, staying calm and professional, and inviting them to continue the conversation offline.
- Clients can edit their Houzz review at any time, and Houzz suggests reaching out to make things right with an unhappy client.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Reviews must be based on first-hand experience as a client, not on contact as a potential client. Reviewers cannot be a director, employee, officer or principal of the business or of a competitor, or related to the business.
- Only one person per household or company may review a professional for a given project.
- Reviews must be accurate and may not include defamatory, threatening, harassing, hateful, or obscene content.
- Undisclosed compensation or incentives are not allowed; any incentive must be stated in the review.
- Reviewers may not use posting or removing a review to demand payment (genuine refund requests after a bad experience are allowed). Reviews may not mention a different company, refer to other people's reviews, or include external links.
- Houzz's reputation guidebook says anonymous reviews are not allowed.
- The Houzz team verifies each submitted review for spam or false submissions, which can take up to 5-7 business days depending on volume.
Reporting a review
Houzz's own process, step by step.
- Houzz generally does not remove reviews from genuine past clients that follow its Review Policy.
- If you do not recognize the client or project named in a review, contact Houzz support through its support inquiry page.
Tips
- Reply to reviews promptly and professionally, including negative ones.
- Request reviews only from real clients, and request Colleague reviews only from professionals you have worked with.
- Do not offer undisclosed incentives for reviews.
- Use the Get Reviews tool on the profile to send personalized requests.
