GetApp Review Guide

getapp.com

GetApp is a software directory and review site for business buyers, run by G2 Digital Markets together with Capterra and Software Advice. Setting up a product profile is free, and reviews collected through the shared reviews program can appear on all three sites. Vendors can reply to reviews but cannot have a review removed because it is negative.

Who uses GetApp

Vendors of packaged, off-the-shelf software for businesses or consumers that is publicly available with a call to action such as a trial, demo, or request for information. Reviewers are verified software users; the vendor, its employees, its direct competitors, and anyone with a financial interest in the product may not review it.

Claim your profile

  1. Product pages carry a "Do you work for ...? Manage this product listing" link, which opens a claim request on G2.
  2. New products are submitted through the "Get listed" link in the site footer, which also goes to G2.
  3. Setting up a product profile is free; sponsored profiles and lead services are paid.
  4. The site may build a profile from public information or work with the vendor, and its content team has final say over the copy.
  5. A product must fit an existing category, be packaged software (not custom-built), and be listed under the name used on the vendor's own website.
  6. For help with a profile, email listings@g2digitalmarkets.com.

Replying to reviews

Vendors may respond to reviews through the site's tools, such as the reply feature in the Vendor Portal.

  • Responses must stay respectful and professional.
  • Vendors must not contact reviewers in a way that could be seen as harassment, and must not pressure reviewers to remove or change honest reviews or threaten legal action over legitimate feedback.
  • The site says it does not endorse the opinions in reviews or in vendor responses.

Review rules

In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.

  • Reviews must come from a real user whose identity the site can verify, even when the reviewer chooses to appear anonymously.
  • Reviews must reflect the reviewer's own first-hand experience and must not be copied or generated by third parties or automated tools, including generative AI.
  • The vendor, its employees, direct competitors, and anyone with a financial interest in the product may not review it.
  • Reviewers may be offered a nominal incentive regardless of the rating they give, and the Reviewer Source icon shows whether a review was incentivized.
  • Vendors must ask a broad cross-section of users for reviews, not only those expected to be positive, and must not coach customers on what to write.
  • Reviews collected through the program may be published on Capterra, Software Advice, and GetApp.

Reporting a review

GetApp's own process, step by step.

  1. Report a review that appears fraudulent or inappropriate by emailing reviews@g2digitalmarkets.com with a link to the product page, details about the review, and any supporting information.
  2. The content can stay published while the team investigates, and it is removed only if it does not meet the guidelines.
  3. The site does not remove reviews because a vendor disagrees with the opinion or because the review is negative, and it does not mediate disputes between vendors and users.
  4. Abuse of the reporting process can lead to penalties.
