Who uses Gartner Peer Insights
Technology and service vendors that sell to mid-size and large enterprises, and the IT and business buyers who research them. Gartner analysts may also use Peer Insights data as one input to research such as Magic Quadrants. Small-business and consumer products are not included.
Claim your profile
- Create a Gartner Peer Insights account to reach the GPI Vendor Portal, and verify your email address. Gartner verifies every user and says to allow 10 to 20 business days.
- Use a business email address that matches the company name; Gartner says it makes no exceptions, including for third-party firms.
- If your company already appears in the list, select it to get portal access; otherwise add the company name exactly as it should be listed.
- To add a product, enter its name, competitor products, and top customers (kept confidential), then choose the product type, a broad category, and the market that fits.
- Gartner decides at its sole discretion whether the product fits a market, using criteria such as required market capabilities and sales to mid-size and large enterprises.
Replying to reviews
Gartner's vendor help center says vendors cannot comment on their reviews and that there is no feature for vendors to communicate with reviewers. Vendors also cannot send private messages to reviewers, because Gartner protects reviewers' identities.
- Reviews are anonymous on the site; Gartner shows only the reviewer's role, industry, title, and company size.
- Vendors can see all reviews of their products under Published Reviews in the GPI Vendor Portal.
- Vendors may quote reviews in marketing if they copy them word for word, use reviews published in the last 12 months, link to the full review, and follow Gartner's Content Compliance Policy.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Every review goes through Gartner's validation and moderation, which checks the reviewer's identity, looks for conflicts of interest, and checks quality.
- Reviewers must have a corporate email matching their stated employer (or sign in with LinkedIn), be an IT or business professional, and have a profile that confirms their identity, employer, and role.
- Reviewers certify they do not work for the vendor or a competitor and are not with an organization that has an exclusive relationship with the vendor, such as a reseller or integrator.
- Vendor employees may not review their own company's products, competitors' products, or products in any market the company is active in.
- Vendors may invite customers to review but may not solicit only positive reviews.
- Vendors may offer incentives, which Gartner limits to nominal value ($25 gift cards); they must be offered for every review and to every invited customer, not only happy ones.
- Reviews do not expire, but in the star average a review counts half as much for each additional 12 months of age.
- Gartner's moderation team decides which reviews are approved and published.
Reporting a review
Gartner Peer Insights's own process, step by step.
- If you believe a review contains factually incorrect information about your product or service, email the Peer Insights team at the address listed in its vendor help center.
- Include relevant evidence and the correct details; Gartner says it will evaluate the request.
- Gartner notes that reviews reflect their authors' experience and opinion and that it does not vouch for their accuracy. Its help pages do not state a response time or possible outcomes.
Tips
- Invite every customer with direct experience of the product, not only satisfied ones.
- Ask customers for honest, detailed reviews with comments that explain their ratings.
- Use the vendor portal's review sourcing links so invited reviewers land on the right survey.
- Never ask your own employees to review your products or a competitor's.
- Thank customers for their feedback and share what you changed as a result.
