Who uses FindLaw
Attorneys and law firms of every size, from sole practitioners to firms with branch offices, and the legal consumers who search the directory. Firm administrators who claim the main office profile can manage the affiliated attorney and branch profiles.
Claim your profile
- Open the Profile Update welcome page (pu.findlaw.com/welcome) and choose 'Register here' under 'Don't have an account?'.
- After you log in and complete the security steps, choose the Attorney update option, then search by first and last name, adding a city, state or country to narrow the results.
- Click Claim next to your profile. A sole practitioner can claim a sole practitioner profile, which covers both the firm and the individual; claiming the main office (shown in bold) gives rights to its branch and individual profiles.
- If no profile exists, click Add and enter your organization and name. FindLaw staff review and publish new profiles within two business days and send an email confirmation.
- Open the profile from Manage Your Profiles, edit it, and publish. A basic (free) listing covers name, address, phone, fax, email and practice area; enhanced profiles add more categories, and FindLaw directs upgrade questions to its sales team.
Replying to reviews
FindLaw emails the attorney or firm when a review is submitted. Log in to Profile Update, read the review, confirm whether the reviewer was a client, and post an official reply, which appears alongside the published review. FindLaw's FAQ says the reply can thank the reviewer or respond to a negative review.
- During the 14-day attorney review period you can publish the review right away, contact the reviewer, or report it; if you do nothing, it publishes automatically after 14 days.
- Attorneys cannot reject a review, and FindLaw says paying customers get no extra options for reviews.
- A firm or attorney can opt out of FindLaw reviews entirely, in which case the profile shows no ratings or reviews, but cannot pick individual reviews to show or hide.
- The attorney can choose one featured review, which is shown first on the profile.
- Requesting reviews through the Request tab of Ratings & Reviews Admin is limited to paid profile owners.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Reviewers open the attorney or firm profile, choose 'Write a Review', and give a star rating and a written review; ratings for value, quality of service and professional competence are optional.
- Reviewers must give their name and verify their email address, or the review is not published. The public byline is either anonymous or first name and last initial, while the attorney sees the name, email and review.
- A client may leave one review per attorney and one per law firm.
- A filter at submission blocks vulgar or inappropriate content and spam.
- Positive and negative reviews are both eligible; reviews with inappropriate or vulgar content, spam, or content about another business are not published.
- No one can edit a review after it is submitted; the reviewer can delete it with the link in the verification email and submit a new one.
- A 'Verified Client' label means the profile owner confirmed the reviewer is a past or present client.
- Some profiles also show reviews gathered from Avvo and Lawyers.com, which belong to the same parent company.
Reporting a review
FindLaw's own process, step by step.
- Click the Report button with the flag icon under the review, give the reason, and enter your email address.
- The FindLaw Review Team compares the review with the FindLaw Terms of Service; reviews with profanity, spam or references to unrelated businesses are removed, and a review is not removed only because it is negative.
- If an attorney challenges a review from a verified client, the team gathers information from both the reviewer and the attorney before deciding.
- FindLaw says reports are reviewed within a week and that FindLaw Support emails the final decision.
- For login or review questions, FindLaw Support can be reached at web_solutions@findlaw.com; its FAQ gives a typical reply time of two days.
Tips
- Use the 14-day review period to read each new review and confirm whether the person was your client.
- Post a calm, professional reply to critical reviews and a short thank-you to positive ones.
- Keep contact details and practice areas current and publish your changes.
- Ask every client for a review rather than only the happy ones.
- Report only reviews that break the rules, such as spam, vulgar content or reviews meant for another business.

About the numbers
- AI citations: the share of answers from AI assistants that cite a page on findlaw.com, out of 23,227 answers in the last 90 days, to questions about the businesses in our directory ("what do customers say about ...") and to category questions ("best dentist in ..."). Search-result and help pages on a review site are not counted. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
- Cited by AI, by industry: for each industry (a directory category, or the national brands filed under an industry such as e-commerce), the share of AI answers about businesses in that industry that cite a page on findlaw.com; n is the number of answers in that industry (last 90 days; only industries with at least 20 answers). As of October 30, 2026. ↩
- Has a profile, by industry: the share of the businesses we checked in each industry that have a FindLaw profile; n is the number of businesses checked in that industry. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
