Who uses Expedia
Hotels and other lodging properties, car rental companies and activity providers that sell through Expedia Group. Reviewers are travelers who booked through Expedia; vacation rentals listed through Vrbo use a separate two-way review system.
Claim your profile
- A property gets its Expedia listing by joining Expedia Group as a partner: create an account, enter basic details about the property and review the lodging agreement.
- Set up the listing with photos, amenities, room types, rates and availability, or sync them through a connectivity software provider.
- Go live and run the property from Partner Central, where partners handle reservations, rates, listing content and guest reviews.
- Expedia Group says there are no joining fees, exit fees or long-term commitments; it is paid a commission on reservations, and the rate varies by market and is shared during contracting.
- Private residences are listed through Vrbo rather than as hotels.
Replying to reviews
Property partners respond in the Post-stay reviews tool in Partner Central: sort the list to show reviews that are awaiting a reply, enter the response and submit it. Responses are public, and Expedia says they go through the same moderation process as traveler reviews.
- Expedia does not edit reviews or responses on anyone's behalf, and it does not put partners in direct contact with reviewers.
- A response can be rejected or removed if it contains another person's personal data, is fake or fraudulent, or is offensive or unlawful.
- Expedia Group's partner guidance suggests addressing the guest by name, avoiding copy-and-paste answers, apologizing without getting defensive, and replying within 24 hours.
- A partner can contact Customer Service to remove a response it published.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Expedia takes reasonable steps so that only people who booked or provided the travel service can review it, and reviews must be submitted within six months of the stay, rental or activity.
- A review must describe a genuine first-hand experience and must not be generated with AI; Expedia may ask the reviewer for evidence of the stay.
- Anyone who owns, manages or is associated with a property may not review it, and partners may not write reviews for travelers or offer them incentives to review.
- Partners may not offer a refund in exchange for a positive review, ask a guest to revise a review for compensation, or arrange negative reviews of competitors; travelers may not threaten a review to obtain a refund.
- Expedia itself sometimes offers travelers a coupon or loyalty reward for any review, positive or negative, and labels those reviews as incentivized.
- Reviews may not contain personal data, links, social media handles, prices or rate information, or material quoted from other sources.
- Accommodation reviews are removed after three years, except where a property has only a few reviews, and Expedia says it does not remove reviews simply because they are negative.
Reporting a review
Expedia's own process, step by step.
- A partner that believes a review breaks the guidelines can submit a review dispute form through its partner services tools or contact Customer Service.
- Grounds Expedia lists for removal include personal data, a review proven fake or fraudulent, offensive or unlawful content, a traveler who did not fulfil or attempt to fulfil the booking, and a review of the wrong property.
- Expedia may also consider removal requests after a change of property ownership or the completion of major renovations.
- Signed-in users can also use the report review flag next to a published review.
Tips
- Reply to negative and positive reviews alike, and keep each reply specific to what the guest wrote.
- Ask guests for reviews in ways that do not depend on what they will say, and never tie a refund or discount to a review.
- Check reviews regularly for recurring themes and fix the underlying issues.
- Keep personal details, prices and links out of responses so they pass moderation.
