Who uses Cylex
Local businesses that want a free directory listing (many listings are first created from publicly available data or by partners), and consumers who search for businesses, request quotes and write reviews. A separate B2B review feature lets registered businesses review their suppliers and partners.
Claim your profile
- Create a Cylex user profile first; Cylex says a user profile is needed to register or manage a business listing.
- Open your company's page, click Report Incorrect Data and choose Claim This Business from the dropdown.
- Choose an existing email address or add a new one; Cylex sends step-by-step instructions to it for setting up access.
- To edit later, click Report Incorrect Data on your page and choose Edit Your Page, then sign in with the email and password you set.
- If your business is not listed, use the Register button on the homepage to add it.
- Cylex staff review submitted changes before they go live, so updates can take a while to appear.
Replying to reviews
Cylex's review terms call every published review an offer for dialogue and say a company that sees criticism as inaccurate can present the facts from its own point of view in a comment on the review. The pages we checked do not give step-by-step instructions for posting that comment.
- Cylex advises criticized companies to accept the criticism, treat it as a chance to improve, and avoid insulting the reviewer or putting down other companies.
- A user profile connected to the listing is how a business monitors its reviews, according to the FAQ.
- Cylex also sells a separate paid reputation tool for replying to reviews on other sites such as Google and Facebook; it is not needed to respond on Cylex.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- Reviewers must be registered users aged at least 16, and reviews must relate to the business being rated and be factual and accurate.
- A reviewer may not be a competitor, may not use several profiles to review the same company, and must have had a genuine purchase or service experience.
- Reviews may not contain personal data such as names, addresses, emails, URLs or phone numbers, or advertising, rumors or hearsay.
- Insults, threats, slander, lies, discriminatory or obscene content are not allowed.
- A business may not review itself under another identity; employees may give an opinion only if they say they work there, and disguised self-reviews are deleted.
- Cylex may ask a reviewer for proof of the experience, such as an order confirmation, invoice, receipt, delivery note or email with the company, and suggests keeping it for 12 months.
- Cylex decides at its own editorial discretion whether a review is published and may shorten text.
Reporting a review
Cylex's own process, step by step.
- Use the Report review button on the review to mark it as questionable.
- Cylex says it will look at the report as soon as possible; the terms do not give a time frame.
- When a review is checked, Cylex may ask the reviewer for documents showing a real service experience and says it does not share those documents with the reviewed company.
- For other help, the FAQ points businesses to Cylex support by email.
Tips
- Claim the listing through a user profile you control, so you can see new reviews.
- Keep categories, keywords and contact details accurate; Cylex says these affect where you appear in its search.
- Answer criticism calmly and with facts, as Cylex's own guidance suggests.
- Ask customers for reviews after a completed job, and never review your own business under another name.
