Who uses BuildZoom
General contractors, remodelers and builders (often listed from public licensing records), and homeowners researching or hiring them.
Claim your profile
- Open your business profile on BuildZoom and select 'Claim now' next to 'Is this your business?'.
- After claiming, use the tabs on the left of the profile dashboard.
- Add licensing information in the 'Update Profile' tab and describe your services in 'About my business'.
- Add photos, your website and social media profiles, and keep contact details current and accurate.
Replying to reviews
BuildZoom encourages contractors to address a reviewer's concerns by leaving a comment on the review.
- BuildZoom's advice for a negative review from a client who hired you through BuildZoom: read the feedback carefully, and if the next step is unclear, send the client a short, professional email asking what would resolve the issue; then fix it or propose a detailed solution.
- Once the problem is solved or a solution is agreed, you can ask the client to update or remove their review.
- The help articles do not list the exact steps for posting a comment.
Review rules
In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.
- BuildZoom's terms say reviews must come from the reviewer's first-hand experience and be accurate, honest, truthful and complete.
- Reviewers may not work for, own an interest in, serve on the board of, or be related to the reviewed business, and may not have received any compensation to post.
- Reviews may not include hyperlinks.
- The terms warn that users may be liable for content that is false, intentionally misleading, obscene, defamatory, unlawful or infringing, and BuildZoom may remove a review it believes violates its content guidelines.
- BuildZoom keeps the right to take down or restore user content whenever it chooses.
- New reviews go through machine and human moderation and may take up to 24 hours to appear once the reviewer has verified their account.
- A reviewer may post only one review per project for a contractor.
Reporting a review
BuildZoom's own process, step by step.
- BuildZoom does not let businesses remove or edit accurate reviews that follow its editorial guidelines.
- It will consider removal if you never had a business encounter with the reviewer, the review violates its editorial guidelines, or you can prove the review contains false representations.
- To dispute a review, log in, click 'Get Reviews' in the far-left column and then 'Manage Reviews', click the ellipses at the far right of the review, choose 'Request Removal', and complete the form.
- Stick to the facts and attach supporting evidence, such as a signed work agreement.
- While a dispute is in progress, supporting documents can be emailed to the support address on the help page, with a link to your profile and the reviewer's name.
Tips
- Claim your profile and keep licensing, services, photos and contact details accurate.
- Reply to reviews calmly and professionally, and try to resolve the client's concern first.
- Ask clients for reviews after completed projects; do not pay or otherwise compensate reviewers.
- If a review is false, use the formal dispute form with documentation rather than arguing in public.
