Who uses Apple Maps

iPhone, iPad and Mac users who find, rate and photograph places in the Maps app, and businesses with physical locations that claim and customize their place cards in Apple Business.

Claim your profile

  1. Sign up for Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Connect) with the email address you use for your business. Apple says it is free to get started and includes place card customization on Apple Maps.
  2. In Apple Business, sign in with a user whose role can manage locations, choose Brands, then Locations, select Add Location and Add single location.
  3. Search for your business and select it if it is already on Maps, or add it as a new location. Drag the map or enter coordinates if the marker is over the wrong building.
  4. Enter the display name, primary category, status, phone number, website and hours, then pick or create a brand.
  5. Verify: verify your organization and send it to Apple for review, or, where Apple offers it for a location already on Maps, take a phone call to the number Apple has on record and enter the four-digit code.
  6. If another organization already manages the location, add it anyway and request a transfer with supporting documents such as a business license or utility bill. Apple says the review can take up to five business days.
  7. After verification, add your logo, cover photo, About text, photos, hours, actions and showcases. Apple reviews logos and cover photos before they appear on the place card.

Replying to reviews

There is nothing to reply to in Apple Maps itself. Apple's ratings are a like or a dislike without text, and Apple's help pages describe no way for a business to answer them. Written reviews on a place card belong to the partner site named next to them, such as Yelp or Tripadvisor, so you reply to those reviews on that site.

  • Check which site supplies the reviews on your place card: the place card names it next to the review count and under Ratings & Reviews, and links to it.
  • Claim your business on that partner site and answer reviews there; your answer follows that site's rules.
  • Keep your place card details (name, hours, phone, website) up to date in Apple Business, since customers can report a place card as wrong and Apple may edit it.

Review rules

In our own words. The official page is the rule that applies.

  • Apple Ratings and Photos is not available in every country or region, and not every place can be rated: if a place card has no Rate button or rating categories, it cannot be rated or get photos.
  • A person rates a place by tapping like or dislike for each available category; the place card shows the result as a percentage with the number of ratings.
  • Rating and adding photos need an Apple Account. People can edit their ratings later and add or delete their own photos, and choose whether to show a photo credit.
  • Maps may suggest that a person rate or photograph a place they recently visited; Apple says these suggestions are processed on the device, and people can turn them off in Settings.
  • Written reviews on a place card come from a partner site and follow that partner's rules. Apple's Business guide says place cards show content provided by Apple and related partners.
  • What a business adds is checked too: Apple reviews logos and cover photos before they appear, and display names and About texts must follow Apple's photo and text standards.

Reporting a review

Apple Maps's own process, step by step.

  1. Anyone can report a problem with a place from its place card: open the place, scroll down the place card, choose Report an Issue and follow the steps. In Maps on a Mac you can also choose Maps, then Report an Issue.
  2. Apple reviews these reports and may edit the place card. When Apple changes a location's name, status or hours, Apple Business emails the organization, which can accept the change or contest it.
  3. A contested name change goes back to Apple for review, which Apple says can take up to five business days.
  4. Apple's help pages describe no separate process for reporting individual ratings. For other questions, sign in to Apple Business, select your account icon, then Support, to contact Apple Business support.
  5. A written review shown from a partner site is reported on that site, under its own rules.

Tips

  • Claim and verify your place card in Apple Business so your name, hours, phone and website are yours to keep current.
  • Add a logo, a cover photo, photos and an About text; Apple reviews them before they show.
  • Watch for emails from Apple Business about changes Apple made after customer reports, and review them promptly.
  • Find out which partner site supplies the reviews on your place card, and claim and answer reviews there.
  • Ask every customer for feedback the same way rather than only the happy ones.

About the numbers

  1. AI citations: the share of answers from AI assistants that cite a page on maps.apple.com, out of 23,227 answers in the last 90 days, to questions about the businesses in our directory ("what do customers say about ...") and to category questions ("best dentist in ..."). Search-result and help pages on a review site are not counted. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  2. Cited by AI, by industry: for each industry (a directory category, or the national brands filed under an industry such as e-commerce), the share of AI answers about businesses in that industry that cite a page on maps.apple.com; n is the number of answers in that industry (last 90 days; only industries with at least 20 answers). As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  3. Has a profile, by industry: the share of the businesses we checked in each industry that have an Apple Maps profile; n is the number of businesses checked in that industry. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  4. States: the share of the businesses we checked in each state that have an Apple Maps profile. States with too few businesses for a stable number are marked "small sample" and are not ranked; when every state is a small sample, none is shown. As of October 30, 2026. ↩
  5. Site reach: the estimated monthly organic search visits to maps.apple.com (DataForSEO Labs) and its Domain Rating (Ahrefs, 0 to 100). These are third-party estimates for the whole domain, not figures from Apple Maps. As of October 2026. ↩
